At Warren Tricomi, our bridal team has styled hair for hundreds of weddings — from intimate ceremonies in the Hamptons to grand celebrations in Manhattan. The one thing every bride with beautiful wedding day hair has in common is that she planned ahead. Here is the timeline we recommend.
Six Months Before: The Consultation
Your bridal hair journey should begin approximately six months before your wedding date. During your initial consultation, your stylist will discuss your vision, review inspiration images, consider your dress neckline and veil or headpiece, and assess your hair's current condition, length, and texture. This is also the time to discuss any color services you may want — balayage, highlights, or a gloss — so your color is established and settled well before the wedding.
Three to Four Months Before: The Trial
The trial is the most important appointment in the bridal hair process. This is a full-length session — typically 60 to 90 minutes — during which your stylist will create your wedding day look from start to finish. Bring your veil, headpiece, and any accessories you plan to wear. Take photographs from every angle. This is your opportunity to refine every detail — the placement of curls, the tightness of the updo, the amount of volume — so there are no surprises on the day itself.
One Month Before: Color and Conditioning
Schedule your final color appointment approximately three to four weeks before the wedding. This gives the color time to settle and soften naturally, so it looks its best on the day. If your hair needs conditioning or repair, this is also the time for a deep treatment or bond repair service. Avoid any dramatic changes at this stage — your trial look was designed around your current color and condition.
One Week Before: Final Trim
A light trim one week before the wedding ensures your ends are fresh and healthy. This is not the time for a significant cut — just a clean-up to remove any split ends and ensure your hair falls exactly as it did during the trial.
The Morning Of: Day-of Styling
On your wedding day, your stylist will arrive at your getting-ready location (or welcome you to the salon) with everything needed to recreate your trial look. Most bridal styles take 45 to 75 minutes. If you have bridesmaids or family members who also need styling, your stylist can coordinate a team to ensure everyone is ready on time. We recommend building in a 30-minute buffer to account for any adjustments.
Bridal Party Coordination
Warren Tricomi offers coordinated styling for the entire bridal party. Your bridesmaids, mother of the bride, and other family members can each receive a personalized style that complements the overall wedding aesthetic. We recommend scheduling trials for the bridal party as well, particularly for anyone with a specific style request.
